Abstract
A chitinase-producing bacterium was isolated from soil by selective enrichmentment culture medium. The bacterium was identified as synonym of Pseudomonas vesicularis based on the data obtained from its morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics. The isolated strain was named Pseudomonas vesicularis KW-15. The medium for the production of chitinase was consisted of colloidal chitin 1.0%, yeast extract 1.0%, MgSO4 ¡¤ 7H2O 0.05%, KH2P04 0.03%, K2HP04 0.07%, NaCl 0.01%, FeSO4 ¡¤ 7H2O 0.001%, MnCl2 0.0001% and ZnSO4 0.0001%. The optimum cultural temperature, time and initial pH for the best production of chitinase were 30¡É, 60hrs and pH 7.0, respectively.
